The dates
2027 has not been announced. The organisers publish their dates when they are ready and we will not guess on their behalf. What can be said is the pattern: the festival has run twice a year since 1994, with a spring weekend around the start of May and an autumn weekend over Halloween. If you are planning that far ahead, pencil in those two slots, hold off on non-refundable bookings, and watch whitbygothweekend.co.uk for the announcement. This page will carry the dates as soon as they are out.
When will the 2027 dates be announced?
The organisers say spring dates are usually released at the winter event before it, and winter dates at the spring event before it. On that pattern, spring 2027 dates would normally be released around the 30 October to 1 November 2026 weekend. If dates are not on the official Dates and Line-up page, they are not available yet, and the organisers advise waiting for them before booking accommodation.
What actually happens
Whitby Goth Weekend has run since 1994 and has grown from a pub meet-up into one of the world's best-known alternative music festivals. Three things run in parallel. First, the ticketed live-music bills at the official venues, the core of the festival and the reason the bands come. Second, the Bizarre Bazaar, the alternative market, with more than 100 traders across two venues, the Leisure Centre and the Brunswick Centre, selling clothing, corsetry, jewellery, art and general curiosities. Third, and this is the part most visitors actually come for, the town itself, where thousands of people in extraordinary outfits promenade the pier, the harbourside and the 199 steps up to the abbey. That last part is free, all weekend, and needs no ticket.
Around the official programme sits a large unofficial fringe: pub gigs, DJ nights, photo meets on the beach and at the abbey, and charity events. Line-ups, venues and on-sale dates are published by the organisers at whitbygothweekend.co.uk closer to each weekend, so check there rather than relying on last year's listings.

Etiquette, briefly
The weekend is famously good-natured and the town has long since taken it to heart. One rule matters: ask before you photograph anyone. People in the most elaborate outfits are asked dozens of times a day and almost always say yes, but being asked is the whole point, and you do not need to dress at all. Plenty of visitors come in walking boots just to watch.
Parking and getting there
Parking is the hardest part of the day, and Goth Weekend loads a peak-summer crowd onto a town built for far fewer cars. The Park & Ride, signed off the A171 on the edge of town, is the reliable answer; the Marina and Church Street car parks put you nearest the harbour, and the Abbey car park on the East Cliff suits anyone heading straight up to the headland. The old town streets are narrow and largely pedestrianised, do not follow a satnav into them. Arrive before ten or after four and the whole thing is easier.
The alternative is not to drive in at all. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs steam services into the town centre and drops you a two-minute walk from the harbour, and trains into Whitby also run down the Esk Valley. On a festival weekend that is a genuinely better arrival than any car park.
Where to stay
Whitby's beds book out early for these dates, often the previous year. If the town is full, look inland: Goathland, Grosmont and Sleights are on the moor road or the railway line, and the southern side of the park around Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale is roughly 40 minutes over the A169. Our comparison of the best base villages sets out the trade-offs, and the general where to stay guide covers cottages, inns and camping.
Making a weekend of it
Both editions sit at good times of year for the moors either side of the festival. Spring catches the coast at its best for walking; the autumn weekend falls in the middle of the dark-sky season, when the moors inland of Whitby have some of the darkest skies in England, a striking companion to a Halloween weekend on the coast. The town's own speciality is worth an hour too: our guide to Whitby jet explains the black gemstone behind half the jewellery you will see that weekend. See what else is on while you are here.
Autumn 2026 dates and the Royal Hotel venue checked against the official Revenant listing on 18 October 2026. Line-ups, times and ticket details can change. Check the official sites before booking travel.

Whitby Goth Weekend questions, answered
When is the next Whitby Goth Weekend?
This year's listed events have finished: 1 to 3 May and 30 October to 1 November 2026. Check the organiser's dates page for the next confirmed weekend; no later dates are inferred here.
Have the 2027 dates been announced?
The official dates page checked on 1 November 2026 listed the 2026 weekends only. Check the organisers' own website for subsequent announcements; we do not infer future dates from the usual seasonal pattern.
Do you need a ticket for Whitby Goth Weekend?
Only for the ticketed events. The live-music bills at the official venues are ticketed, and some fringe gigs and club nights charge separately. Walking the town, the harbour, the abbey headland and the street scene costs nothing, and a large share of visitors never buy a music ticket at all. Check the official site for current on-sale dates and prices.
What is the Bizarre Bazaar?
The weekend's alternative market, and for many people the main draw after the people-watching. Over 100 traders spread across two venues, the Leisure Centre and the Brunswick Centre. Selling clothing, corsetry, jewellery, art and curiosities. It runs across the weekend alongside the music.
Where do you park for Whitby Goth Weekend?
Treat it like a peak summer weekend: the Park & Ride off the A171 on the edge of town is by far the easiest option, with the Marina and Church Street car parks closest to the harbour and the Abbey car park up on the East Cliff. The old town streets are narrow and largely pedestrianised, do not attempt them.
Do you have to dress up?
No. Nobody is turned away for wearing a fleece, and thousands of ordinary visitors come simply to look. If you do dress, the unwritten rule is the polite one: ask before photographing anybody, because the people in the finest outfits get asked a hundred times a day.
Is Whitby Goth Weekend family friendly?
The daytime absolutely is, the market, the seafront and the street scene are cheerful and welcoming, and plenty of families come. Evening gigs and club nights are adult events with their own age policies, so check the individual venue.
Where should I stay for Whitby Goth Weekend?
Whitby's own beds book out many months ahead for these dates. If the town is full, the moorland villages inland, Goathland, Grosmont and Sleights, and the southern edge of the park around Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale are 30 to 45 minutes away and far easier to book late.
When is Whitby Goth Weekend 2027?
Not yet announced. The organisers usually release spring dates at the preceding winter event, which in 2026 runs from 30 October to 1 November. Dates appear on the Dates and Line-up page at whitbygothweekend.co.uk once confirmed.
Booking a bed for the weekend
Whitby fills months in advance for both weekends. The moorland villages inland and the southern edge of the park around Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale are half an hour or so away and far easier to book late.
