Walks from Thornton-le-Dale
You don't have to go far for a good walk when you're staying near Thornton-le-Dale. From the beck and the village green, footpaths lead out into farmland, up to the tiny church at Ellerburn, and on into Dalby Forest — easy strolls or longer moorland days, as you please.

Gentle strolls
For an easy amble, follow the beck through the village and out along the field paths — a short, pretty loop that shows off the thatched cottages and the stream Thornton-le-Dale is famous for. The lane to Ellerburn, with its ancient little church of St Hilda tucked in the valley, makes a lovely quiet objective.
Into the forest
From the village edge, paths and lanes climb towards Dalby Forest, linking into its huge network of waymarked woodland trails — so you can start from the village and make as long a day of it as you like. (See our Dalby Forest guide.)
