Levisham

Levisham is a moorland village, a single street of stone cottages around a green at the end of a no-through road, with a friendly pub, a heritage railway station in the valley below, and moorland walks straight from the door.

The village and station
The Horseshoe Inn sits on the green, and that's about the extent of the village, which is the charm of it. Down in the valley of Newton Dale lies Levisham Station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, restored to how it looked around 1912. The National Park leaflet hosted by the railway describes the station as a steep mile and a half below the village, about 2.4 km. Arriving by train involves an uphill walk, not a level transfer; no numerical climb was confirmed.
Parking and station facilities
The NYMR station postcode is YO18 7NN. Its car park charges £2 per hour, £5 all day (9am to 6pm daily; free outside those hours), 9am to 6pm daily. This is station parking in Newtondale, not parking on the village green. A current official village parking location was not confirmed. The station has toilets, including accessible facilities; the Weighbridge Tea Hut opens at weekends, bank holidays and special events.
The Horseshoe Inn
The Horseshoe Inn is listed at Levisham. Opens only from 3pm Monday to Friday. Sunday is the only day they serve lunch, noon to 1.45. Confirm current arrangements with the inn.
Walks
Levisham Moor rises above the village, with paths to the ruined Skelton Tower overlooking the railway, and the great bowl of the Hole of Horcum is close by, one of the classic North York Moors walks. Need a base for a few days? See where to stay.
