Hot tub cottages and lodges in the North York Moors

By Jon Cosson · Updated 25 October 2026

A hot tub under a dark sky is one of the most popular ways to spend a short break on the North York Moors. This guide explains where hot tub stays are found, what to check before you book, and which forest cabin sites have a hot tub with every cabin. We take no commission and carry no paid listings.

Check these five things before booking
  • Private or shared A hot tub in a cottage's own garden is not the same as one shared with other guests on a site.
  • Hot tub rules Many places set hours of use, a maximum number of bathers and a minimum age for children.
  • Dogs Pet-friendly cabins and cottages are usually a set number of units, and they book up first.
  • Getting there in winter Moor roads can be closed or icy in snow, so check the route and the forecast before travelling.
  • Changeover days Short breaks often start on a fixed day, such as Monday or Friday.

Forest cabins with hot tubs: Cropton and Keldy

Forest Holidays runs two cabin sites in Cropton Forest, north of Pickering on the southern edge of the moors, and every cabin at both has its own hot tub.

Forest Holidays Cropton is on Moor Lane near Cropton. Its cabins sleep up to six, and include one-bedroom cabins for couples. Some cabins are pet friendly.

Forest Holidays Keldy is near Cawthorne, also in Cropton Forest. Its cabins range from one to four bedrooms and sleep up to eight, and some are pet friendly. Forestry England, which manages the forest, says booking is essential.

Both sites are reached by car. Book through Forest Holidays, and check which cabins take dogs before you choose.

Cottages with a private hot tub

Holiday cottages with private hot tubs are found across the moors and coast, from the villages around Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. Most are let through national letting agencies, which let you filter by hot tub, and some are let direct by their owners.

In Thornton-le-Dale, Rinstone Lodge from Moors Cottages is a two-bedroom cottage sleeping four, with a private hot tub, a wood-burning stove and an enclosed garden, a short walk from the village centre. It has parking and does not take dogs, and is booked direct with the owners.

A cottage gives you the hot tub to yourself, often in an enclosed garden. Check how the tub is screened from neighbours, whether it is cleaned and refilled between every booking, and whether it is ready on arrival or needs time to heat.

Glamping and pods with hot tubs

Some glamping sites and pod sites on and around the moors offer pods, huts or lodges with hot tubs, usually as a few units within a larger site. Facilities and rules vary widely, so read each site's own terms. Our camping and caravanning guide covers sites across the area.

Dark skies from the hot tub

The North York Moors is an International Dark Sky Reserve, so on a clear night away from towns you can see far more stars than in most of England. Forest cabins and moorland cottages away from street lights are the best places for it.
