The Mallyan Spout walk
Tucked into a wooded gorge below the village of Goathland, Mallyan Spout is the tallest waterfall in the North York Moors — a 70-foot ribbon of water spilling over a mossy cliff into the beck below. A short walk from the village brings you to it.

The walk
It's a gentle circular of around three miles from Goathland, dropping down beside the beck through the wooded gorge to the falls before looping back — an easy couple of hours, though the path close to the waterfall is rocky and can be slippery and wet, so sure footwear helps. After heavy rain the Spout is at its most dramatic; in a dry spell it can be a slender trickle.

Goathland is a destination in its own right — the "Aidensfield" of Heartbeat, and its railway station stood in for Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films, a stop on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
