North Yorkshire Moors Railway
North Yorkshire Moors Railway webcam
By Jon Cosson · Updated 25 October 2026
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway streams live video from cameras at its stations and beside the line, so you can watch trains on the moors from home. One camera is free to watch. The rest are part of a paid YouTube membership run by the railway.
We are an independent guide. We have no connection with the railway and do not run or host any of the cameras.
The free camera: Goathland Bank
The Goathland Bank camera is free to view. It looks over the steep climb near Goathland, where locomotives work up a gradient of 1 in 49, which makes it one of the best places on the line to hear a steam engine working hard.
The members' cameras
The other cameras need a YouTube membership with the NYMR, which the railway describes as a small monthly subscription. It unlocks up to eight extra cameras with video and sound. The railway lists cameras at Pickering station, Goathland station, two views of Grosmont station, and lineside cameras on Levisham Straight, Goathland Straight, at Darnholm and on the Esk Valley near Grosmont.
The railway says buying the membership through the YouTube website gives the best price, and that joining through an iPhone or iPad can cost more because of app store fees. Members and non-members of the railway pay the same.
When the cameras are on
The railway says streaming may run 24 hours a day, but any camera can be switched off at any time, for example for safety, an incident or maintenance, and weather can affect the picture. Trains only pass on operating days, so check the timetable if you want to see a train rather than an empty line.
The NYMR YouTube channel
The cameras run through the railway's own YouTube channel, which also carries behind the scenes films and footage of special events such as galas.
