Mathewsons auction dates 2026 and 2027

By Jon Cosson · Last checked 6 October 2026

Every Mathewsons sale at Pickering follows the same pattern: a six-day public viewing, then a three-day auction behind closed doors. This page lists the dates Mathewsons have published, drops each one once it has passed, and is updated the day new dates appear on Mathewsons' own site.

Viewing hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 12 noon; the saleroom is closed on Sundays, so a "Wednesday to Tuesday" viewing week is six days, not seven. Each sale runs to up to 900 lots over the three days, starting at 10am.

2027

Mathewsons had not published any 2027 dates when this page was last checked. The pattern in 2026 was a Pickering sale roughly every month from April to July, then September, October and December, with the Harrogate event in August. That is a guide to when dates are likely to fall, not a promise; this page will carry the 2027 dates the day they are announced, and nothing before.

How a Mathewsons sale works for a visitor

The viewing week is the part you can attend. Entry is £5 per person, payable by card or cash. You can walk round the cars and memorabilia entered for the sale and inspect them; that is what the week is for, and Mathewsons say every lot is sold as seen, so serious buyers use it.

The sale days themselves are held behind closed doors. You cannot buy a ticket to sit in the room at Pickering. In 2026 the one exception was Mathewsons Live, the summer auction held away from Pickering at Harrogate, where the public could watch the bidding.

The rules at the viewing are firm: no visitors aged 16 or under, no pets, no food or drink, and no handbags or large bags. A private viewing of a specific vehicle outside the published week can be arranged by contacting Mathewsons in advance.

Mathewsons say bids can be placed online, by telephone or by commission bid; they do not describe bidding in the room. Ask them on 01751 474455 or at admin@mathewsons.co.uk; auction entries go to entries@mathewsons.co.uk.

Getting there

The saleroom is at Unit 10, Enterprise Way, Thornton Road, Pickering, YO18 7NA. On-street parking near it fills completely during a viewing week, so the practical route is the free weekday shuttle bus that links the Thornton-le-Dale premises, the saleroom and Eastgate car park in Pickering. The Pickering saleroom page has the detail, and the Thornton-le-Dale guide covers the museum and shop at Roxby Garage, which is open every day whether or not a viewing is on.

Mathewsons auction dates FAQs

When is the next Mathewsons auction?

The next sale is the October 2026 auction, Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 October 2026, from 10am, with public viewing from Wednesday 21 to Tuesday 27 October 2026.

Can you go to a Mathewsons auction?

Not to the sale days at Pickering, which are behind closed doors. You can go to the six-day public viewing before each sale for £5. Mathewsons Live, held away from Pickering in August 2026, was open to the public.

How much does it cost to visit Mathewsons?

£5 per person to enter the Pickering viewing. The museum and shop in Thornton-le-Dale are a separate visit; the museum charged £2.50 on a recent visit, a figure from the door rather than a published price list.

Are children allowed at the Mathewsons viewing?

No. Mathewsons' rules exclude anyone aged 16 or under, along with pets, food and drink, and handbags or large bags.

When are the 2027 Mathewsons auctions?

Not yet published. In 2026 the Pickering sales fell in April, May, June, July, September, October and December, with Mathewsons Live in August. This page carries dates only once Mathewsons announce them.

What do I need to know about driving in the North York Moors?

Moor roads are scenic but narrow, with blind summits, cattle grids and sheep. Sometimes free-roaming through villages like Goathland, on unfenced roads, so drive slowly and use passing places. High routes such as Blakey Ridge can be bleak or closed in snow.
