Planning a steam train trip from Pickering to Whitby

Check the train for your date, its destination and the return journey before planning time in Whitby. Not every railway service runs through to the coast or is steam hauled.
Check the service before setting off
Use the NYMR timetable to check which trains reach Whitby and which are scheduled for steam haulage. Operational changes can affect the locomotive and service. Confirm the return train before leaving the station.
The route to Whitby
The route calls at Levisham, Newtondale Halt, Goathland and Grosmont between Pickering and Whitby. Newtondale Halt is a request stop. The line uses NYMR's heritage route to Grosmont and the national network from there to Whitby. See NYMR's route map.
